WAU’s panel on the Middle East North Africa region will discuss the rise of disputes related to complex construction mega projects in the region, the growth of international arbitration as reflected by the creation of new arbitration centers, and the influence of Shariah law and civil law as foundation of applicable law in arbitrations in the region. Panelists will address the following issues: The challenges that parties face to enforce investment and commercial awards in the MENA region. The status of the quest of the Arab world to become a cosmopolitan system of law influenced by the foundations of shariah and civil law, and other factors. Considerations that arbitration centers are taking into account about the region with the dynamic economic environment—mining, tourism, electricity power and constructions projects—to establish themselves in the region, and The expectations of development and growth considering the legal and cultural features of the region.
